I didn't get the sense that the movie was trying to sell this toxic 'relationship' as liberating. I thought it was clear Romy is sexually deviant, damaged by her childhood but also perhaps born that way and I felt the movie was actually portraying the sickness of her sexuality. The whole dynamic between Romy and Samuel was upheld by manipulation and blackmail. The only thing that was probably selling a lie is the aftermath. How her career didn't crash from it and how her husband forgave her.

I like that take! I think why I was more harsh on the movie was because of how it was marketed as some sexy and empowering movie, which I think depending on how you market a movie or just a story in general it will change how people analyze the narrative. So if they were trying to shape this story as some cautionary tale (excluding the ending), it should've been marketed better.

Thanks for the input!
