-OPINION-
Look, guys, I’m not trying to be dramatic, but the state of education in this country has officially jumped the shark. And by “jumped the shark,” I mean it’s like the whole education system just decided to set itself on fire and dance around in a circle while chanting about intersectionality and gender fluidity. Yes, I said it—our schools have become breeding grounds for woke ideologies rather than places where students actually, you know, learn things that will help them survive in the real world.
But hey, who needs reading, writing, or arithmetic when you can get a degree in “gender studies” and tell everyone how oppressed you are, right? It’s not like these kids need to know how to do basic math to succeed in life—oh wait, yes they do. But apparently, in 2025, schools have decided it’s more important to teach kids about the multiverse of gender identities than the fundamental concepts that help them function in society. Priorities, people.
Let’s get something straight: We all know the American education system has been underperforming for years. The test scores are embarrassingly low, kids are barely passing their SATs, and kids can barely spell past a fourth grade level. Yes, I’m serious. Instead of getting kids to the level where they can competently take a test, read a book without Googling every other word, or even understand basic science, schools are too busy pushing an agenda. An agenda that’s so out of touch with reality that it’d be funny if it weren’t so tragic.
Let’s talk about what’s really going on here. All this “woke” nonsense? It’s front and centre. Kids in America aren’t learning about the American Revolution or the importance of the Constitution. No, no, no. Instead, they’re being taught about how they might be a non-binary, gender-fluid, polyamorous butterfly who identifies as a “tree in her past life”—oh, I’m sorry, “their past life.” We’re teaching them to question everything, but not in the traditional, critical thinking way. Oh no. We’re teaching them to question their very existence, their biology, and their entire identity.
Middle schoolers don’t even have the brain capacity to know who they are, let alone figure out what gender they are—or if they’re even human at all. These kids are still trying to figure out how to navigate a school dance, how to pass their chemistry test, and how to survive being trapped in a room with 30 hormonal teenagers for eight hours a day. But instead of getting the education they need to survive high school and, y’know—life, they’re bombarded with a lecture about how their feelings and identities are more important than their grades. Here’s an idea: How about we teach them how to read first? Just a thought.
And let’s not ignore the viral TikTok video of that mom confronting her school board. You’ve seen it. If you haven’t, well, get ready to watch a woman who should win an award for mother of the year, because she actually has the guts to call out the absurdity of schools pushing this nonsense on kids. Here’s the video:
She’s absolutely right. Kids shouldn’t be subjected to a curriculum that’s basically a social experiment. They’re still figuring out how to handle new responsibilities, how to study properly and efficiently, and how to get through life without a full-blown mental breakdown. The last thing they need is an overzealous teacher giving them a lecture about gender as a social construct.
But don’t worry, guys, it gets even better—and by “better,” I mean worse. If you think this madness is reserved for middle and high schools, think again. It’s spreading like a virus to our colleges and universities, too, which isn’t a big shock, either. If you haven’t seen that clip of NYU students listing their majors, I highly recommend you do. It’ll give you a good laugh, followed by a healthy dose of existential dread, of course. These are the future leaders of our country, people. The future CEO of some multinational corporation? Probably majoring in gender-neutral underwater basket weaving. The next Supreme Court justice? Oh, they’re probably working on their queer post-colonial environmental economics degree.
The reality? These kids are being set up to fail. They’re being told that their identities are so much more important than actually knowing how to do anything useful. Good luck explaining to a potential employer that you have a degree in "decolonizing pizza toppings" and wonder why you're not getting hired. It's almost like employers want people who can solve real-world problems—not people who can tell you what "gender non-conforming a-romantic pansexuals" are and why they're oppressed. But hey, don’t worry! In the brave new world of post-graduate unemployment, you’ll just tweet about your oppression and wait for the world to give you a gold star for simply existing.
And let’s be real here. These universities have absolutely zero interest in giving these kids practical skills that will actually help them pay off their student loans—because who needs a job when you’re busy making up new ways to feel special? Professors are pushing this junk because they know they can fill their lecture halls with bright-eyed, idealistic students who think they’re changing the world by calling out “the cis-het patriarchy” at 2 a.m. on Twitter. News flash: The world doesn’t care if you’re a demisexual who identifies as an alien from Mars. They care if you can do the job you were hired for.
Look, I get it. It’s fun to have these discussions about how “woke” the world is, how we’re all just one click away from triggering some sort of social justice revolution. But let’s get serious for a second. This nonsense is dangerous. We’re not just setting these kids up for failure—we’re robbing them of the education they deserve. By focusing so much on this insane identity-politics agenda, we’re telling them that their individual identity matters more than their ability to think critically. More than their ability to create something. More than their ability to contribute to society in a meaningful way.
And this is where we’re at in 2025. Schools have become giant ideological factories. Instead of learning how to reason, how to debate, or how to innovate, students are learning how to fall into neat little categories that someone else created. It’s like playing a real-life game of Guess Who? except everyone’s identity is being reduced to a label and all the questions are about your pronouns and which box you check on the census. That’s the education system we’re dealing with.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying there shouldn’t be room for discussion about social issues. But can we please agree that this isn’t the time or place for it? Kids should be in school learning how to think for themselves—not being told what they should think. Schools should be teaching kids to question the world around them, not just fit into the mold of whatever is trending on TikTok.
So, here’s the million-dollar question: Are we ever going to get our heads out of the sand and realize that real education matters? Or are we going to keep pushing these kids down a path where the only thing they’re prepared for is a life of Twitter rants, participation trophies, and crushing student debt? Spoiler alert: The clock is ticking, and it’s looking like we’re running out of time.
At this rate, the next generation of students might just be great at social justice activism. But when it comes to reading a balance sheet or solving a simple algebra problem, they’ll be hopelessly lost—and completely unprepared to face the real world. But hey, at least they’ll have their pronouns sorted, right? Priorities, am I right?
